From the beginning of its operations throughout the 1990s, the telecom successfully acquired several mobile networks such as JT Holdings in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Skycell Communications in Chennai, and Spice Cell in Calcutta. As of June 2011, Bharti Airtel's subscriber base in India reached 169 million or about 20% of the country's mobile market. The telecom's coverage reaches about 86% of the country's total population, covering all of the 22 licensed jurisdictions or telecom circles in India.
Across the country, Bharti Airtel offers postpaid and prepaid tariffs and other seasonal promotional offers which vary per region.
